Travel to South Bend/Notre Dame
Please note the change in time zones from Chicago (Central Time) to South Bend/Notre Dame (Eastern Time).
By Air
South Bend International Airport (SBN) is about 15 minutes by car from the Notre Dame campus. Visitors also can fly into Chicago and then drive to Notre Dame. The university is about two hours by car from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and about 90 minutes from Midway International Airport (MDW).
From the South Bend airport, the Notre Dame campus is approximately a 15-minute ride by car. Various transportation methods are available (e.g., taxi, rental car, ride-hailing service).
Train
The South Shore Line is a rail line that provides daily transportation to and from Chicago to South Bend International Airport. Visit their website for more information on times and to purchase tickets.
Amtrak also has limited routes from Chicago's Union Station to South Bend and Niles, Michigan, a historic train station about 10 miles north of Notre Dame.
Bus
Greyhound (a private bus company) also offers limited transportation routes between Chicago and South Bend.

South Bend Transpo
South Bend Transpo is the local area bus service providing transportation to and from Notre Dame, South Bend, Mishawaka, and the South Bend bus station to the South Bend International Airport.
- ROUTE 7-Hesburgh Library to South Bend bus station.
- ROUTE 4-South Bend bus station to South Bend International Airport and also stops at Washington St. Amtrak Station.
