Event details

In honor of the 70th anniversary of Godzilla, please join a special double film screening of the original Godzilla (1954) and Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971). Notre Dame Professor Amanda Kennell, Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, will introduce the film. An expert in Japan’s modern media environment, Kennell will discuss Godzilla’s relevance today.

Godzilla wreaks havoc after being awakened by underwater hydrogen bomb testing. The King of the Monsters fights an alien life form that arrives on Earth and steadily grows by feeding on industrial waste in Godzilla vs. Hedorah. The film is Toho Studios’ 11th Godzilla film.

The film screening is part of Godzilla Fest (asia.nd.edu/godzilla) organized by the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies at the University of Notre Dame, the St. Joseph County Public Library, and the Browning Cinema at Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.
